Your task
  • We will read a text as a group and everyone will be assigned roles: summariser, predictor, questioner, clarifier.
  • At the end of each paragraph you will contribute according to your role.
  • As we go through next few slides on roles, pick your role and I will give you a card to help you with the role.

Slide 4 - Slide

Summariser
  • Identifies the main points
  • Writes 1 or 2 sentences to capture what you have read

  • Asks questions that will help the group understand what they are reading
  • Thinks of surface questions - Who? What? Where?

Skincare for All Ages: How to Evolve Your Routine As You Age

Slide 10 - Open question

The visible signs of aging are an inevitable process that begins in your 20s. Consistent SPF usage can help slow down the effects of aging, but unavoidable factors like genetics, time, and hormone levels combine to change the structure of your skin’s health, resulting in aesthetic issues like wrinkles, fine lines, dehydration, skin thinning, and loss of elasticity.

Slide 11 - Open question

How Aging Affects the Skin
1. Collagen and Elastin Breakdown: Collagen, which provides skin firmness, naturally breaks down over time, with your skin producing 1% less collagen per year after the age of 20. Elastin, responsible for skin flexibility, also starts to break down in your twenties. Later in life, women can lose a staggering 30% of their remaining dermal collagen in the first five years of menopause.
2. Oestrogen Deficient Skin: After menopause, skin loses oestrogen, leading to dryness, wrinkling, thinness, and itching. Oestrogen is responsible for plumping the skin, improving hydration, and stimulating new collagen and elastin. The loss of this interaction results in clinical signs of dryness and wrinkling.
3. External Factors: Sun damage, exposure to air pollutants, tobacco use, and other external forces affect your skin as you age. Over time, your skin may appear duller, less elastic, and unfortunately, have more wrinkles.

Skincare at Different Stages of Life
Skincare in Your 20s
• Prevention and Foundation: Focus on prevention and lay the basic foundation of your routine.
• Upgrade Your Cleanser: If you’re still using harsh astringents and cleansers from your teen years, toss them out. As you age, your oil glands shrink, and drying cleansers may irritate your adult skin.

Slide 13 - Open question

Skincare in Your 30s
• Consistency: Stick to a regular cleansing routine and moisturize daily.
• Antioxidants: Incorporate antioxidants to combat free radicals and protect against premature aging.
Skincare in Your 40s and Beyond
• Hydration: Prioritize hydration with richer moisturizers.
• Retinoids: Consider using retinoids to boost collagen production and reduce fine lines.
• Eye Creams: Invest in eye creams to address crow’s feet and puffiness.

Slide 14 - Open question
