You are going to read and summarise a news article from a Dutch newspaper. Make sure you can tell something about it. 
Phase 1: Read in Dutch and summarise in English

Phase 3/3+: Read in Dutch and summarise in Dutch --> ad.nl

2. Highlight the words you do not know and look them up.
3. Add the words to the shared Quizlet list
4. Summarise the article (be comprehensive!) in your own words.

2 options:
- Regelmatige werkwoorden (regular verbs): Regel

- Onregelmatige werkwoorden (irregular verbs): Learn them
--> Look at the list in your verbs document
--> Search the translation for the verbs
--> Learn 10 verbs a week
--> The more verbs you know, the easier it is to make Dutch sentences!

1. You will work in groups of 3 or 4. The higher phases have to help the lower phases!
2. Browse through your newspaper and pay attention to the different texttypes. 
3. Write down atleast 3 different text types and 5 topics you come across in your newspaper. Look up the translation and write it down in Dutch. Add new words to the Quizletlist! 
4. Done? Pick an article you think is interesting and cut it out. (Phase 1: You will get an article from me)

Find an answer on these questions in your newsarticle. Pay attention to the structure of your article. Where did you find the answers to these questions?

1. In your group you are going to think of an own news item. You may use your imagination. It does not have to be something that actually happened!
2. As a group you are going to present it to the rest of your class. It should look like a news report. You can include an interview, opinion of a professional,...

4. Everyone in your group should say something in Dutch.

For this formative you will write a news article. You think of an own subject, but make sure it is realistic. Before you start writing your article, take a few steps:
1. Answer the 5W+H questions about your subject
2. Choose an article on www.jeugdjournaal.nl and use this article as an example for the structure (don't use this article as a subject!)
3. Think of a suitable title and picture for your article
4. Wordcount: Phase 1: 150 / Phase 2: 200 / Phase 3: 300 (minimum)
5. You will get time in class to work on this article

Debate: Fireworks 
Structure of the debate: 
1. Group 1 (Affirmative) opens with their position in the statement + sums up the most important arguments (1 student)
2. Other students of group 1 elaborate on the arguments + give examples 
3. Group 2 (Negative) is next
4. Time to react on each others arguments (improvise!) 
5. Round up: Every group gets one more minute to conclude. Summarize your most important argument and tell why your group is correct (1 student)

Debate: Fireworks 
Divide the tasks + research 
- Choose 1 student to open the debate and 1 student to conclude. The other students will elaborate on the arguments --> divide the arguments 
- Research the news: what has been said about the fireworks, search for examples 
- Write down your arguments in simple Dutch! Only use google translate for words. The other group should be able to understand your arguments
- Practise!
