•  look for a name, date or word 

How do you know what a word means without looking it up?

use of context

• It can explain further on in the sentence (definition) 
• Word parts - do you know part of the word? 
• There might be examples or pictures  
• Synonyms ( other word for) and antonyms (means the opposite)
