Past simple - present perfect recap

Past Simple

Je gebruikt past simple als iets in het verleden is gebeurt en het is afgelopen/afgerond.

E.g. He went to Japan last summer.

Past Simple - regels

1. Regelmatige werkwoorden ------ED   He worked

                     Yesterday  all my troubles seemed so far away.

2. Onregelmatige werkwoorden -----2e rij  She wrote

                            Last Christmas I gave you my heart.

Hoe weet jij of een werkwoord regelmatig of onregelmatig is?

Stap 1: kijk of het werkwoord in de irregular verbs list staat. Ja? --> Stap 2 / Nee? --> Stap 3

Stap 2: schrijf de 2e vorm op

(to buy --> buy / bought / bought)

Stap 3: plak -ed achter het werkwoord

(to play --> played)

 Regular Verbs Spelling

Als een werkwoord eindigt op een medeklinker + -y, dan verandert de -y in -ie: I carry - I carried

Let op, er verandert niets als het werkwoord eindigt op klinker + -y:

I play - I played

 Regular Verbs Spelling

Als een werkwoord eindigt op -e, dan komt er in de past simple alleen een -d achter: I live - I lived

In de past simple wordt de laatste medeklinker verdubbeld als er één klinker voor staat: I drop - I dropped

Past Simple - Irregular verbs

Voor irregular verbs (onregelmatige ww) gebruik je de 2e vorm van jouw lijst:

To write -> wrote;                      E.g. I wrote her a letter last week

to go -> went;                              E.g. He went to Italy last year

to make -> made:                       E.g. They made a very nice cake two days ago

There are no rules for the irregular verbs, you just have to learn them by heart

Voorbeeld: Did you go on holiday last year?

REGEL:

DID + onderwerp + hele werkwoord (go, see, take...)

Let op: 2e ww in de zin is hele ww. (haal -ed weg of vul 1e vorm in

Vragen in Past Simple: to be

Het werkwoord 'to be' is in past simple: was/ were.

Om een vraagzin te maken zet je was/were vooraan de zin.

Voorbeeld:

He was there last week. --> Was he there last week?

They were friends back then. --> Were they friends back then?

Begin de vraagzin dus met was of were. 

He didn't go to the football match.

Ontkenning in de Past simple

Hoe maak je ontkenningen in de Past Simple?

Voorbeeld: She did not take the apple.

REGEL: 

Onderwerp + DID NOT (DIDN'T) + hele werkwoord (do, go, take...)

He did not (didn't) listen to me. 

They didn't take the bus home yesterday.

Ontkenning Past Simple: to be. 

Hoe maak je een ontkenning met to be in de past simple?

Voorbeeld:

He wasn't at the party last night.

Regel:

Zet 'not' achter was of were.

They were not at the party last weekend.
