U1D3 exercise 3 and 4 are about the present continuous.

We will spend a little more time on the present simple and present continuous before you start working on the exercises.

Present simple

Je gebruikt de present simple om te zeggen dat iets:

regelmatig gebeurt of een gewoonte is, een feit is of in het algemeen zo is.

On Sundays we often visit our aunt.

I take a shower every day.

This espresso machine makes delicious coffee. 

Present simple

Vaak staat er bij de present simple een woord in de zin als:

always, often, never, sometimes, usually (gewoonlijk), frequently (vaak), every day, every week, ...

I often watch the news before I go to work.

I charge my smartphone every evening.

The sun always rises in the east.

Present continuous

Wat valt op? Wat benadrukt de present continuous?

Present continuous

De present continuous gebruik je ook om irritatie uit te drukken, meestal in combinatie met always:

 

My uncle is always complaining about the weather!

They are constantly using my smartphone!

Kayla can't come to the phone, as she (to try on) outfits for the party.

Jamie (often - to fall) asleep on the bus home from work.

They (to test) the new products as we speak.

Miriam (sometimes - to help out) her uncle in his shop on Saturdays.
