Reading strategies
- Orientation
- Skim the text
- Read the questions
- Decide where in the text you can find the answer: scan the text.

Orientation
You always start with this
Your goal at the start is to get a first impression.
Lay-out: chat, newspaper article, menu? etc.
First impression: title, sub-headings, pictures
Expectations: what's it about? What do you already know about this topic?

Skimming
Read the first and last sentence of every paragraph.
Just try to find out what the text is about, skip the details.
Don't worry about difficult or unknown words.

Use skimming for questions about
