Past Continuous
Je gebruikt de Past Continuous wanneer..
  1. iets op een bepaald moment in het verleden aan de gang was;
  2. je iets in het verleden aan het doen was.

! Het is de duurvorm. Je wilt dus benadrukken dat je er lang mee bezig bent geweest, het heeft even geduurd.

                                         I was learning my English vocabulary for hours yesterday.

Wanneer iets in het verleden aan de gang was of voor een langere tijd bezig was en je dit wilt benadrukken.

Deze twee tijden kunnen ook samen in één zin staan. Dit gebeurt vaak bij een onderbreking van een actie. De actie die het langst heeft plaatsgevonden staat dan in de Continuous.
