Indirect speech

Peter: I absolutely hate school.

Peter said (that) he absolutely hated school.

Je vertelt dat iemand anders iets op een eerder moment heeft gezegd.

Hoe vorm je de indirecte rede?

Indirecte rede gebruiken? > ga een stap terug in de tijd.
De werkwoorden veranderen.

Direct speech > Indirect speech.

Present simple > Past simple
Present continuous > Past continuous

Present simple > Past simple

She said: ' I love watching football.'

She  said that she loved watching football.

Werkwoord vervoegen naar past simple > ww +ed of 2e vorm.

persoonlijk voornaamwoord verandert ook.

Present continuous > Past cont.

Present continuous > Past continuous

Michael explained, 'I am painting the house.'
Michael explained (that) he was painting the house.

am/are/is + (ww+ing) > was/were + (ww+ing)

persoonlijk voornaamwoord verandert soms ook!

Julie: I want to go out.
INDIRECT SPEECH

1. Julie said that I want to go out
2. Julie said that she want to go out.
3. Julie said that she wanted to go out.
4. Julie said that she had wanted to go out.

Ben: "I don't like shopping."
in indirect speech is:

1. Ben said that he don't like shopping.
2. Ben said that I didn't like shopping.
3. Ben said that I don't like shopping.
4. Ben said that he didn't like shopping.

Gebruik: Indirect speech
Jay: “I like sandwiches!”

1. Jay said that he like sandwiches
2. Jay said that he likes sandwiches
3. Jay said that he liked sandwiches
4. Jay said that he did not like sandwiches.

6. Change this to indirect speech:
"It is snowing," Jim said.

1. Jim said that it was snowing.
2. Jim said that it is snowing.
3. Jim said that it had been snowing.
4. Jim said, "it is snowing'.

Indirect Speech:
Our Teacher: "I'm working on correcting your tests."

1. Our teacher said that she is working on correcting our tests.
2. Our teacher said that she was working on correcting our tests.

Choose the correct conditional clauses:
