  • They build the city for the fur-trade.

Jail and law
  • Three strikes law -> with three strikes of breaking the law you have to go to prison for 25 years. Even if it is only having drugs on you or robbing a store.
  • Capital punishment (death row) is still in use in the USA. For serious crimes (murder, large scale drugs trafficking or being a spy) you can be send to be killed. They used to hang people, now they give you a poison or the electric chair.

Law and racism
Some laws were aimed at people of colour. Police could stop and search anyone who 'might have illegal stuff' on them. 
Police stopped coloured kids a lot more.
Still today, if you are coloured you get shot a lot easier.
