- Activating students prior knowledge through open ended questions. 
-  Draw meaningful connections between students lives and the experiences of the characters through a blooket quiz and comparing schools in the 1990s versus now. 
- Watching the movie trailer and gain a better insight into the book:  themes, characters and cultural context.
