ADJECTIVES
Adjectives (bijvoeglijke naamwoorden) gebruiken we om iets of iemand te omschrijven.

Adjectives zeggen iets over nouns (zelfstandige naamwoorden).

  • That is a wonderful film.
  • Simon is a good friend of mine.
  • I think he is a terrible person.

ADVERBS

Adverbs zijn bijwoorden. 

We maken adverbs door -ly achter een adjective te zetten.

  • Sure – surely
  • Quick – quickly
  • Loud – loudly
  • Proud – proudly

Soms verandert de spelling van het woord.

  • Beautiful – beautifully
  • Easy – easily
  • Probable – probably
  • Realistic – realistically

Adverbs gebruiken we:

1. Wanneer we iets willen zeggen over een verb (werkwoord).

  • The children protested loudly.
  • My sister walked in proudly.
  • Mary sings wonderfully.

2. Wanneer we iets willen zeggen over een adjective (bijvoeglijk naamwoord).

  • This is a terribly dark room.
  • I am eating an amazingly delicious steak right now.

3. Wanneer we iets willen zeggen over een ander adverb (bijwoord).

  • They reacted very angrily.
  • The boy ran incredibly fast.
  • My grandparents talk incredibly loudly.

  • Hopefully, she will call me back later.
  • Luckily, the bus was on time.
  • Unfortunately, I lost my watch.
