Lesson 7
Language, lay-out and
manipulation

Slide 1 - Slide

Laat zien dat een krant opgebouwd is uit allerlei elementen en dat dat bewust gekozen wordt.
- Taalgebruik
- Vormgeving
Dat heeft weer te maken met publiek, stijl, politieke voorkeuren, commerciële doelen, etc.
Ga hier nog niet te diep erop in. Het is een voorbeeld: je kan de lay-out ontleden en zelf gaan toepassen.
Objective and subjective
objective

- based on facts
- someone is not influenced by feelings, opinions, or prejudice

subjective
- based on one's own opinion
- someone is influenced by feelings, opinions, or prejudice (biased)

Subjective language
1. Metaphor: you use a word or image to mean something else, with which it shows a similarity.
2. Generalisation: you judge a lot of / all individuals of a certain group, based on only one or a few examples from the group.
3. Adjectives: Using a lot of adjectives can give a certain colour to a message and strengthen it.
4. Exaggeration: You can put extra emphasis on a certain feeling or emotion.

Task 2
First individually:
