Met één lettergreep of eindigend op -le, -er, -ow, -y, maak je de vergrotende en overtreffende trap door er -er of -est achter te zetten:

quick --> quicker (than)--> quickest
small--> smaller(than)--> smallest
fit--> fitter (than)--> fittest

simple--> simpler (than)--> simplest
easy--> easier (than)--> easiest

Bad --> worse than --> worst

Een tag is een kort vraagje aan het einde van een zin: ..., is it? / ..., isn't it? / ... can't you?
De spreker vraagt hiermee eigenlijk: Ben je het met me eens?
In het Nederlands zeg je vaak iets als: nietwaar? / hè? / toch? / vind je niet?


Na een bevestigende zin (+) is de tag ontkennend (–).
Na een ontkennende zin (–) is de tag bevestigend (+).
