Degrees of comparison 

 Vergelijken  doe je met bijwoorden of bijvoeglijke naamwoorden

voorbeeld: It's the hottest day of the year.

You will have to work harder!

short words (korte woorden)

- 1 syllable (1 lettergreep)

- '-er' or '-est'

example: old - older (than) - (the) oldest

My watch is ... (cheap) than yours.

2. cheapest
3. cheaper
4. cheap

I am the .... (young) of the family.

1. younger
2. young
3. youngst
4. youngest

long words (lange woorden)

-  2 or more syllables (2 of meer lettergrepen)

- 'more' or 'most'

- Behalve bij woorden eindigen op medeklinker +'-y'

examples 

this phone is expensive 

 this phone is more expensive (than) --> comparative 

this phone is the most expensive -->  superlative 

Money isn't ..... ..... important thing.

English is ... .... difficult subject.

words that end with: '-ow', '-le', 

'-er' , -some 

- they can also end with '-er' or '-est' 

example:

This is the simplest task I've ever done. 

I am cleverer than you!

He is handsomer than you (already an -e, just put an -r)

Exceptions (uitzonderingen)

there are words that don't follow the rules
