Past Simple
Wanneer gebruik je de past simple?
Als je over iets wilt praten dat in het verleden is gebeurd en ook is afgelopen, dan gebruik je de past simple. 
Vaak wordt daar dan bij vertelt wanneer het in het verleden was. Er wordt een tijdsaanduiding gebruikt. 
Signaalwoorden zijn: -Yesterday, - this morning, - ... ago, - last ..., in + jaartal

Het rijtje dat je moet kennen:
I was                         we were
you were                 you were
he was                     they were
she was
it was

Zinnen met to be
I was very frightened.
They were watching a movie.
Wanneer je deze vragend maakt, zet je de vorm van 'to be' voor aan in de zin.
Was I very frightened?
Were they watching a movie?
Wanneer je ze ontkennend maakt, komt er 'n't' of 'not' achter de vorm van  'to be'.
I wasn't very frightened.      
They weren't watching a movie.

to have (got)
Het werkwoord 'have' heeft voor alle vormen maar 1 verleden tijdsvorm: HAD
I had (I'd) seen that film.
We had a dog.
He had a robot.
Zoals je in de eerste zin zie je dat deze vorm wordt afgekort met 'd.

Vragen en ontkenningen 'had'
Vragen en ontkenningen met 'had' werken als volgt:
Als er een werkwoord achter staat, zet je bij vragen 'had' vooraan:
I had seen that film.        Had I seen that film? 
Bij ontkenneningen 'not' achter 'had':
I hadn't seen that film.
Als het het enige werkwoord is, komt er een vorm van 'to do' bij:
We had a dog.           Did we have a dog?    We didn't have a dog.
Denk daarbij aan de regel: Na 'to do' altijd een heel werkwoord!!!
