Slide 2 - Video

Learning goals
- you know what mass movement is.
- you understand the role erosion plays in changing the landscape in mountain ranges and recognise river and glacier valleys.
- you can explain the differences between river gravel, sand and clay.

Slide 3 - Slide

Grab your notebook and go to the assignments side.

What do you see in the picture?
Try to explain each concept.

Slide 5 - Slide

A glacier is wide and therefore also erodes a wide valley. The valley takes the shape of a U; a U-valley.

Different with a river, which makes a much narrower valley: a V-valley.

Slide 6 - Slide

U-Valley:
Formed by glaciers.
Erosion side and bottom.

V-Valley:
Formed by rivers.
Erosion at the bottom (fastest current).

Mass movement

Slide 14 - Slide

Mass movements:
Weathered material moves down a slope.

Material can roll, slide and fall.
Type of movement depends on:
1. How steep the slope is.
2. The size of the rock

Slide 19 - Slide

Erosion affects, among other things, stones

Weathering and erosion cause the solid rock to fall apart further and further
