Definition of Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are used to show ownership or possession of a noun or pronoun.

Some examples of possessive adjectives are: my, your, his, her, its, our, and their.

Possessive adjectives tell you who something (such as

a pet) belongs to. Possessive adjectives are used before the noun. They change

depending on whether the owner is singular, plural, male

or female, the person you are talking to, or yourself. 

Examples of Possessive Adjectives

Some examples of possessive adjectives are: my, your, his, her, its, our, and their.

Provide the students with examples of possessive adjectives and explain their usage.

My and Your

My and your are possessive adjectives that show ownership or possession of a noun or pronoun by the speaker or the person being spoken to.

Explain the usage of my and your and provide examples.

His and Her

His and her are possessive adjectives that show ownership or possession of a noun or pronoun by a male or female person respectively.

Explain the usage of his and her and provide examples.

Its

Its is a possessive adjective that shows ownership or possession of a noun or pronoun by an animal or object.

Explain the usage of its and provide examples.

Our and Their

Our and their are possessive adjectives that show ownership or possession of a noun or pronoun by a group of people.

Explain the usage of our and their and provide examples.
