How to do Part 2
  • Talk about the general ideas in the photos, don't try to describe them in detail.
  • Compare the ideas the two photos show in relation to the question.  Say what is the same and what is different.
  • When you are not sure what is happening in a photo, speculate (She seems to be ....., He might be ......)

Slide 21 - Slide

Comparing the photos

1 minute per candidate
  • In the first photo, there is a young family who are on a ski-ing holiday whereas,  in the second photo a group of friends are enjoying a meal outside.
  • Discuss photo one
  • Discuss photo two
  • Discuss both: The people are probably enjoying getting together and that is usually fun. However,....... Whereas, .........
What are the people enjoying about doing these activities in their free time?

Slide 22 - Slide

Speculating language

In the first photo I see a girl who looks as if .........

While the girl seems to be enjoying herself, perhaps  she is having difficulty keeping up with her friend .....
I think the girl might be listening to music on her headphones.

On the other hand she might be listening to  a podcast, probably  about keeping fit , or how to improve your stamina.

Slide 23 - Slide

Candidate A (time yourself: 1 minute)
Why have the people decided to read stories in these situations?
Candidate B (- 30 seconds)
Do you like reading stories when you’re travelling? Why? (Approximately 30 seconds)

Slide 24 - Slide

Candidate B (time your self: 1 minute)
What do you think the people are enjoying about being part of these teams?
Candidate A (30 seconds)
Which activity would you prefer most (why)?
