Modals zijn hulpwerkwoorden. Ze helpen een ander werkwoord.
can/could/be able to + hele ww   must/have to/should + hele ww

De meeste modals veranderen niet van vorm, sommige wel: 
I am able to..., she is able to..., we are able to...
I have to..., he has to...
        (want to be en to have kun je ook als los ww gebruiken.)
