in English we use one of the following three:

In BEVESTIGENDE zinnen gebruik je ALLEEN 
a lot of:

- There were a lot of books in the library.

In VRAGENDE zinnen en ONTKENNENDE zinnen gebruik je MANY voor telbare zelfstandige naamwoorden en MUCH voor ontelbare zelfs. nmw.

Examples:

ontkennende zinnen:

- There weren't many books in the library.

- She hasn't much time left.

vragende zinnen:

- Does he drink much water?

- Did they eat many burgers?
