Hidden under the Rimburg soil are the remains of a Roman street village - a "vicus" - and the remains of a Roman bridge that crossed the Worm. De Worm is nowadays the border between the Netherlands and Germany. 
People have lived in Rimburg since Roman times and the custom of building houses like a ribbon along the road still exists.

EYGELSHOVEN
When the church of Eygelshoven was restored in 1939, the remains of two Roman milestones were found, bricked into the church tower wall. Milestones like this stood - every thousand paces - along the Roman roads. The posts are quite weathered, but an inscription can still be read: for example, the name of Emperor Constantine the Great is recognizable. He gave the Via Belgica a major overhaul around the year 310.
