Henry VIII (1509-1547)

- Very popular as a kid, lots of hobbies.

- Was a spare kid, had an older brother.

- His first wife was his brothers' wife [Catherine of Aragon].

- Was training for church career as a kid, loved theology and Catholism.

- Married for love.

The Union That Sparked 

Reformation, Beheaded

Affair with Henry VIII (1520), came

to England.

Henry became smitten, did not want to 

be a mistress, Henry sought annullment.

Spent childhood in French court.

Anne Boleyn (1501-1536)

King broke from Roman Catholic Church, formed Church of England.

Wed 1533. First child of the couple: Elizabeth. 

Also did not provide a son, Henry lost interest, took on another mistress. Anne was enraged. 

Henry accused her of cheating and treason, annulled the marriage. After Anne was beheaded for these crimes.
