You use this / that/ these and those to introduce people.

- Hi Tim, this is Patrick.

- You see the girl over there? That is Tiffany.

- ‘This book I have in my hand is amazing!’

- ‘I have to study all these books I have in my bag.’

- ‘That fly up on the wall is annoying me!’

- ‘Those people over there are colleagues of my mother.’

Examples and other rules

You  can leave the noun away when is clear what is meant.  You could also use one or ones instead of the noun

What about those pencils? I like those.

- Do you like that car? Yes, I like that one.

-This en these refer to the present and that and those refer to the past.

- My hair looks better these days.

- We used to like each other a lot at that time.
