Chinese school sets up 'marks bank'

Why has a school in China come up with a ‘marks bank’ according to paragraph 1?

1. because the bright pupils can now help out weaker ones
2. because poor students also deserve extra support
3. because students should take tests more seriously
4. because the present testing system is very demanding

Why?

What is the point made by Huang Kan in paragraph 3?

Why?

• "to measure, give feedback, correct, and elevate standards – and not difficult, punish or damage  enthusiasm.” 
• Het doel is positieve feedback en niet negatieve stress veroorzaken.

Why is this expression used?

1. to deny that some students will abuse the ‘marks bank’
2. to explain why cheating will increase because of the ‘marks bank’
3. to introduce an extra argument that supports the ‘marks bank’
4. to point out that there is a negative side to the ‘marks bank’

Why?

• the scheme was a ‘double-edged sword’ as some students may take exams less seriously and end up developing ‘inertia’
• inertia = traagheid

Dit is een argument wat laat zien dat er negatieve kanten zitten aan de marks bank. Het argument gaat echter niet over cheating (afkijken) of abuse (misbruik). Daarom is D het juiste antwoord.

In welke alinea werd al eerder duidelijk dat werkhouding kan meetellen voor de ‘marks bank’?

Why?

• Sleutelwoord: Werkhouding 
• Alinea 2: behaviour records = gedrag archief oftewel werkhouding cijfers.

Het belangrijkste uit de vraag is het sleutelwoord werkhouding, je moet dus op zoek gaan in een van de alinea's ervoor of dat woord ertussen staat. Dan kom je uit bij behaviour records in alinea 2.
