What is Citizenship Education
 Basic citizenship skills help students to actively participate in society. Developing citizenship involves learning these skills and then using them in everyday life. Since 2021, a new law has been in effect in NL that Citizenship Education is taught in school.
  • citizenship means that you learn how to evaluate situations (pros and cons) and make choices for your own future;
  • citizenship also means being able to deal with important social issues .

What is the Citizenship Project?
This Period you choose a Citizenship Topic and a book from the Reading List which is related to the Topic.
In week 7 or 8 you will give a Presentation with two or three other pupils (individual mark!) about the Topic. Each of you will briefly describe the Topic's importance in their book.

In Period 1 in HAVO 5, you will read another book, and give a PTA speech comparing it to the book you read in P4 HAVO 4.

H4 Oral Test
During the Oral test about the 2 articles and the book of your choice of the three provided, you have to be able to connect different elements/topics of Citizenship to the book:
plot or character(s) or conflict, etc.

Make sure that you can argue about why the examples in the book, that you have chosen are elements of citizenship.
