Present simple

can someone guess?  Can you give an answer in the past tense:

PAST TENSE: 
- I went to ............. on holiday!

Rules of the Past Continuous 

• Was/ were + verb + ing ending 

• An action you/they were doing at a point in time 

Interrupted

I was giving a lesson

  Was/were + verb + 'ing' ending

 - Action that was happening at a particular point in time. 

I had a cat when I was in England. 

We were living in England when we got a cat 

Lets analyse these sentences: 

They no longer have a cat.  The action has finished. The action was not interrupted. 

- Past continuous is often used with the past simple 

 

What were you doing at 10pm last night?

Answer in the present continous:                           subject + was/were + verb (+ing).
