Present Simple

Use when you talk about a fact / habit.                             Shit-rule: He/she/it + infinitive + s

Signal words: every day/month/year, usually, always, often, never, etc.

(To walk)
I walk to school everyday.             
He/she/it walks to school every week.

(To  work)                                     
I work on Mondays.
He/she/It  always works in the office.

Present Continuous
1. Use when you are doing it RIGHT NOW.      (aan het ....)                  We are listening.
Am/is/are + verb + ing
2. The Present Continuous is also used to express irritation:       You're always chatting! Stop it!

Signal words: right now, at the moment, currently, now etc.

(To walk)
I am walking now.                                                   / Am I walking?          /  I am not walking.
He is walking at this moment.                         / Is he walking?        / He is not walking.
We are walking to the shop right now.        / Are we walking?   / We are not walking.

  • Use when talking about a fact/habit.

  • I walk / he walks

  • Use infinitive / SHIT-rule (she/he/it verb+s)

  • - (negative) I don't walk.                                                          He/She/It doesn't walk.

  •  ? (question) = Do I walk?
                                    Does He/She/It walk?

      Present continuous

  • Use when you are doing it RIGHT NOW.
  • Or by : irritation.

  • I am walking

  • Use am/is/are + verb + ing

  • - (negative) = I'm not working.                  
You aren't working very hard
 He/She is not working very hard.

  • ? (question) = Am I driving too fast?
                                    Are you driving too fast?
                                    Is He/She driving too fast?
