King Edward VIII was supposed to be king and have descendants to rule Britain. He abdicated within a year to marry divorcée Wallis Simpson.

King George VI, Edward's younger brother became king. Queen Elizabeth II was never supposed to become queen until her uncle abdicated. Her father died when she was only 25 and she became Queen.

1952/1953

King George VI died in 1952 and Elizabeth became Queen. The coronation was in 1953.
