How do we create the correct negative form of the verb?
Affirmative sentence:
You did not work there in 2020.
You did not dance all night.
They did not see each other a lot as kids.
She did not look at the screen.
It did not confuse you.
He did not promise to do better next time.
He did not know the answer.
  • Did not verb

Important:
  • So, we do not add (e)d to the verb or use the irregular form! 

  • Regular:
    You played outside last night. > You did not play outside last night.

  • Irregular:
    I saw him yesterday. > You did not see him yesterday.

  • Irregular verbs (onregelmatige werkwoorden) follow the same rules as regular verbs when we ask questions.

  • Regular:
  • You killed that bug. > You did not kill that bug.

Irregular:
I knew the answer. > I did not know the answer.
