Division is splitting a number into equal parts. We use it to share things equally or find out how many groups of a certain size are in a number.

Repeated Subtraction
We can use repeated subtraction to divide. For example, if we have 12 candies and want to share them equally with 3 friends, we can subtract 3 from 12 repeatedly until we can't anymore.

In our example, we subtracted 3 from 12 three times. This means 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Each friend gets 4 candies.
