What time is it?

Learning goal: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to confidently say the time in English.

Vocabulary

Hour, minute, second, o'clock, quarter past, half past, quarter to

Digital Clocks

Digital clocks simply display the time in numbers.

Analog Clocks

Analog clocks have two hands, an hour hand and a minute hand.

Telling the Hour

To tell the hour, simply say the number of the hour followed by 'o'clock'.

Telling Minutes Past the Hour

To tell minutes past the hour, say the number of minutes followed by 'past' and the hour.

Telling Half Past the Hour

To tell half past the hour, say 'half past' and the hour.

Telling Minutes to the Hour

To tell minutes to the hour, say the number of minutes followed by 'to' and the next hour.

Telling Quarter Past and Quarter to the Hour

To tell quarter past the hour, say 'quarter past' and the hour. To tell quarter to the hour, say 'quarter to' and the next hour.
