What was the movie about?

European Unification progressed in several phases. We will briefly examine each of these phases.

In 1944 Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg decided to collaborate economically: The BeNeLux was created.

It is 1945: The war is over. Europe is in ruins and every country is starting to rebuild. Countries no longer want war and decide to cooperate.

In 1951, six countries joined forces to control coal and steel production. The European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) is created.

The ECSC was a success. The countries made new agreements, such as the abolition of border controls. This made trading much easier. With these new agreements, the ECSC became the European Economic Community (EEC).

Ultimately, the European Union (EU) was established. The EU works not only economically, but also politically. Member States must comply with laws.

In 2002 a large part of the EU started using the same currency: the Euro. This made trading within Europe even easier.
