What do you remember?

When is it used?

1. To talk about things that are happening  NOW:
   Be quiet! The baby is sleeping.
   I am doing my homework at the moment.
   
   
2. To talk about plans for the future that are planned.
   I am having dinner with my parents tomorrow.
   We are going to the film later, I already have tickets.
   
   
3. To express irritation
   Go away! You are always annoying me!

How is it made?

Subject + form of 'to be' + verb + -ing

I am watching television.

We are studying for our test.

She is cycling to her friend's house.

He is going to the cinema tonight.

My parents are cooking dinner together.

The forms of to be: 

I = am

He/She/It = is

You/We/They = are

How is it made? (2)

1. Short words get the final letter doubled
   
   I am putting my bags in my locker. (to put)
   My dog is digging a hole in the garden. (to dig)
   
   
2. Words ending in -e lose that letter (when not pronounced)
   
   We are cycling to school. (to cycle)
   My wife is baking a cake. (to bake)
   I am dying my hair tonight. (to dye)

Fill in the correct form of the verb.

Questions and negatives

form of 'to be' + subject + verb + -ing + rest + ?

I am eating an apple. --> Are you eating an apple?

The children are playing videogames. --> are the children playing videogames?

Subject + form of 'to be' + not + verb + ing

She is baking a cake. --> She is not baking a cake.

Kevin is playing football. ---> Kevin is not playing football.

am not --> I'm not

is not --> 's not / isn't

are not --> 're not / aren't

Do not use abbreviations (afkortingen)

Even when your verb is do or does, you still need to add an extra do or does for the questions and negatives!
