How do you deal with other cultures or people who are different from you? Use the folowing words from §6: polycentrism, ethocentrism, xenophobia, xenophelia

Answer the folowing questions in ± 3 sentences:

• Do you think that white people in The Netherlands are privileged, in comparison to people with another skin colour? Why do you think this? Give examples.

• If you are white: Do you feel superior to people with another skin colour? Why is this?
• If you have another skin colour: Do you ever feel inferior to white people or treated inferior? Please, give an example.

• What is your view on different cultures? Do you feel that one culture is better than others?  Which one and why? (Use the words from §6!)

Culture Shock

• That awkward moment: the first meeting...
• Memorize the 'greeting' on your piece of paper;
• DO NOT TELL OTHER PEOPLE YOUR GREETING!!!

• Walk around the room and (try to) greet people in the way that's discribed to you.

Developing a 

"common language"

• Discuss in a group of ±4 people;
• To hand in: your answer to the questions below, and reflection on the discussion in the group.

• What would change in your life? Name ± 5 things;
• What would change in the way you behave and your attitude?
• How honest would you be about your identity? Explain why.
• How would other people react to you? (family, friends, classmates, society)
• Do you believe you would have less or more power in society? Explain why.
• What can you offer society, which is different from your own identity?
• What do you need from other people? What do you expect from other people (or visa versa)?
