Present Simple vs. Present Continuous
What is the difference?

I am studying for my driver's test on Saturday. Usually I work at Albert Heijn on Saturdays.

He bakes cakes.
He is baking a cake.

               Present Simple

I work at Albert Heijn.
You work at Albert Heijn.
He works at Albert Heijn. 
She works at Albert Heijn.
It works at Albert Heijn.
We work at Albert Heijn.
They work at Albert Heijn.

Use: For habits, routines, facts
              Present Continuous
               am/is/are + verbing

I am working at Albert Heijn.
You are working at Albert Heijn.
He is working at Albert Heijn.
She is working at Albert Heijn.
It is working at Albert Heijn. 
We are working at Albert Heijn.
They are working at Albert Heijn.

Use: When something is currently happenening. Also to express irritation.

Object + Infinitive    

I
When used? - After a verb with a meaning about wishes or a commands.
I asked him to come over for dinner.
I told them to do their homework.
Infinitive = "to" in front of the verb  -> to do, to make, to speak, to run
Examples of words that are wishes or commands(bevel).
-ask           - tell
-expect    - warn
-mean      -would like
-order       -would love


I expect them to finish work early today. 

The queen ordered her to leave immediatley. 

His boss warned him to not arrive late. 
(let, make, smell, hear, other verbs on senses) - just use an infinitive without a 'to' after the object.

Past Simple
I lived in the Netherlands for 3 years.
(Lived in the Netherlands, but not any more)

Painting was my favorite hobby for years. (but not any more)


Form: verb + ed / irregular verbs 2nd form

Use: When something happened in the past, and is finished in the past.

Present Perfect
I have lived in the Netherlands for 3 years.
(still lives in the Netherlands)

Painting has been my hobby for years. (and still is)


Form: have/has + past participle 


Use: When something happened in the past, and still is relevant to now.
