Mastering Present Simple and Present Continuous

Learning Objective

At the end of the lesson, you will be able to recognize and understand the usage of the present simple and present continuous tenses, apply them correctly in tasks and assignments, and know how to form these tenses.

Present Simple vs. Present Continuous

Introduce the topic of the lesson and highlight the difference between the present simple and present continuous tenses.

Slide 2: Present Simple

Used to talk about general truths, habits, and permanent situations

Examples: 

The sun rises in the east.

 I play tennis every Sunday.

Explain the usage of the present simple tense and provide examples. Emphasize that it refers to things that happen regularly or are generally true.

Slide 3: Present Simple Formation

Formed by using the base form of the verb, except for third-person singular where 's' or 'es' is added.

 Example:      She works in a bank.

Explain how to form the present simple tense, focusing on the base form of the verb and the addition of 's' or 'es' for third-person singular subjects.

Identify the correct form of the verb in the given sentences:

'My sister ______ (like/likes) to read books.'

Provide a task for the students to practice using the present simple tense. Encourage them to choose the correct form of the verb for each sentence.

Used to talk about actions happening now or around the present moment. 

Examples:

 I am studying for my exam.

 They are playing football.

Explain the usage of the present continuous tense and provide examples. Emphasize that it refers to actions happening at the moment of speaking or around the present moment.

Slide 6: Present Continuous Formation

Formed by using the present participle (-ing form) of the verb with a form of 'be'. 

(  Am/are / is  +  werkwoord met - ing erachter)

Example:     She is working on a project.

Explain how to form the present continuous tense, focusing on the present participle (-ing form) of the verb and the use of a form of 'be'.
