Tenses
Present simple - stam ww (+s bij he/she/it)
Past simple - ww + ed (of 2de rijtje)
Present perfect - have/has + ww+ed (of 3de rijtje)
Past perfect - had + ww+ed (of 3de rijtje)
Present continuous - am/are/is + ww + ing

Present perfect
Je gebruikt de present perfect wanneer:
- Iets in het verleden begonnen is en nu nog aan de gang is
- Om te praten over ervaringen
- Om te zeggen dat iets in het verleden is gebeurd en dat je daarvan nu het resultaat merkt
Signaalwoorden: for, since, already, ever en never.

Present perfect + past simple
Bij de past simple is het al afgelopen (verleden tijd)
VB: I saw him last week

 Bij de present perfect is de actie nog bezig – of heeft het nog invloed op het heden. (tt)

VB: I haven't seen him since last Christmas

Past perfect
Je gebruikt de past perfect wanneer iets éérder is gebeurd dan iets anders in het verleden. Dus bij twee of meer acties in de verleden tijd. Signaalwoorden: after, before, when of as soon as.

VB: When I arrived at the station, the train had already left.

Past perfect vs past simple
De past perfect wordt vaak gebruikt samen met de past simple in een zin.
De past perfect is dan datgene in de zin dat langer geleden is gebeurd. Alles wat daarna komt is past simple.

‘The boy ran away after he had broken the window’

Present continuous
De present continuous gebruik je als je over iets praat dat momenteel nog bezig is of een afspraak in de nabije toekomst.

VB: I am taking a shower.
She is cooking dinner.
We are walking to school.

Present continuous vs present simple
De present simple (tegenwoordige tijd) gebruik je bij feiten, gewoontes en ‘vaste’ rituelen.
Signaalwoorden: "always, never, every day etc" 

 De present continuous gebruik je als je over iets praat dat momenteel nog bezig is of een afspraak in de nabije toekomst.
