Verb patterns: 'to & infinitive'
We gebruiken de to & infinitive na deze werkwoorden: 

agree, decide, forget, learn, remember
need, try, want, would like / ‘d like

Bijvoorbeeld: We agreed to switch off our phones.

Verb patterns: 'verb + -ing'.
We gebruiken verb + ing (dit noem je ook wel de ‘gerund ‘) na deze werkwoorden:
can’t stand, don’t mind, enjoy, finish, hate, 
keep, like, love, prefer, stop

Who / that bij personen: 
An inventor is a person who/that invents things.
Which /that bij dieren en dingen:

Where bij plaatsen:

Adverbs of manner (bijwoorden)
 adjective (bijv. nw) zegt iets over noun (zelfst. naamwoord) 
adverb (bijwoord) zegt iets over verb (werkwoord).
Je maakt een bijwoord door -ly achter het bijv. nw. te zetten.  She is quiet - She speaks quietly.

Als het bijv. nw. al eindigt op -ly dan zet je er - ily achter:  
The rain is heavy - It’s raining heavily.

Special adverbs of manner
 Sommige bijwoorden hebben dezelfde vorm als het bijv. nw. Deze leer je uit je hoofd:
hard, fast, right, wrong, early, late, high, last, best, wide
Bijvoorbeeld: He is a fast runner - He runs fast (niet fastly!) 
 
Het bijwoord van good is well
Bijvoorbeeld: She is a good actress - She acts well.

Can 
mogen = voor regels die anderen voor ons gemaakt hebben.
I can go online when I want. (Het mag, het is toegestaan.)
I can’t watch TV after 10 p.m. (Het mag niet, is niet toegestaan.)
Can you invite friends to stay? (Mag het, is het toegestaan?)

Modal verbs: can, have to & must
Have to: 
moeten = om te zeggen dat iets nodig is en 
Don’t have to: niet hoeven = als iets niet nodig is.
You have to come home straight after school (Het moet)
You don’t have to come home straight after school (Hoeft niet)
Do I have to come home straight after school? (Moet het? Is het nodig?)

Modal verbs: can, have to & must
Must: 
dezelfde betekenis als have to maar have to komt meer voor.
I have to / must cook dinner. 
Mustn’t (must not) om te zeggen wat je niet mag doen
You mustn’t stay up late. (Dit mag niet.)
Vergelijk met:
You don’t have to go there. (Het mag maar het is niet nodig.)
