Reading Strategies

Skimming 

You use skimming when you flip through the book to get a general idea about a book or you look through the TV screen to choose the program you want to watch.

Scanning 

You use scanning (detective search) when you look up a word in the dictionary or address or a phone number.

You are reading a menu at a cafe. You're trying to check the exact price in the menu and find your favorite cheeseburger. Is it skimming or scanning?
