We do not know 1. WHEN exactly or 2. it is NOT important.

Past Simple
If we WANT to say WHEN something happened,
we use PAST SIMPLE.
Also use PAST SIMPLE in questions with "WHEN".

To talk about states and actions that started in the past and
still continue...
Often used: SINCE + FOR

My dad has had this hobby since 2005.
I have known her for five years.

Extra Grammar Notes:
The past simple is used for finished actions in the past we know when it happened. I went to London last Christmas
The present perfect is used for experiences and unfinished time. I've been to London three times
