What does the word "apartheid" mean?

Slide 10 - Open question

Apartheid
South Africa used to have a system called apartheid, where people were treated unfairly because of their race. This started a long time ago when some Dutch settlers came to South Africa and took over the land. They made rules that said non-white people had to live separately from white people and didn't have the same rights. This lasted for many years until 1994, when the country had its first fair elections and apartheid was finally ended.
