Economic growth --> high level of optimism about the economy.
Turning point on October 24, 1929
--> stock market crash caused an economic crisis (depression).
Thousands of banks, businesses and farmers went bankrupt and millions of people became unemployed.

Crisis in the 1930s

The global economy caused the crisis to spread around the world.
The stock market crash was the direct cause of the crisis.
Indirect causes were overproduction in agriculture and industry and buying on credit (loan).

The government intervenes

President Roosevelt began to combat the crisis in 1933 --> New Deal.
The government put the unemployed to work and supervised the banks.
Farmers who limited their production received subsidies.
With these measures, the economy improved, but it didn't end.
