  • Due to economic growth, there was a tremendously high level of optimism about the economy.
  • This optimism and growth reached a turning point on October 24, 1929
  • --> stock market crash caused an economic crisis (depression). 
  • Thousands of banks, businesses and farmers went bankrupt and millions of people became unemployed.

  • The global economy caused the crisis to spread around the world.
  • The stock market crash was the direct cause of the crisis.
  • Indirect causes were overproduction in agriculture and industry and buying on credit (loan).
