A man puts a chopped-off arm  in a box and sends it to three other one-armed men. 

These men are extremely content with their parcel and throw it into the sea

De mannen hadden samen schipbreuk geleden en hadden een pact gesloten. Om te overleven zou ieder van hen een arm afhakken die ze dan vervolgens konden opeten. Voordat de vierde man aan de beurt was, werden ze gered. De drie eenarmige mannen wilden wel dat de vierde alsnog zijn offer zou brengen en herinnerden hem eraan. Deze woonde inmiddels ver weg en wilde liever niet zijn arm missen en kwam op een andere manier aan een arm die hij vervolgens aan de drie stuurde.
