Use: The past continuous is used for an activity in the past. It is continued for a longer period of time and eventually stopped.
Form: To be (was of were) + verb +ing

sentence, the longer activity is the past continuous and the shorter activity is the past simple.

                                 am/are/is + verb + ing

  • Afspraken waarvan de tijd en/of plaats al vast staat (geregeld)
  • We are having dinner at a restaurant at 6.30.
  • I am flying to Paris next week.

Let op!
Je kende al een future vorm: to be going to. Deze lijkt op hoe de present continuous future gebruikt wordt, maar is wel anders:
- plan wat vast staat = present continuous future 
- plan wat niet vast staat, een intentie = to be going to + ww
