Past Sentences with 'when/while/as'

'when/while/as' are glue. 
 
They stick together 2 sentences of past simple and past continuous.

Look at the pictures.  Chose the correct sentence.

1. She was cleaning a window, when the telephone rang.
2. She cleaned a window when the telephone was ringing.

Which action happened first (before the other action)?

1. clean a window
2. telephone ring

1. As Kate was reading a book, the dog came.
2. As Kate read a book, the dog was coming.

Which action happened first (before the other action)?

1. read a book
2. the dog come

1. As Mike drove to the beach, he was seeing a helicopter.
2. As Mike was driving to the beach, he saw a helicopter.

Which action happened first (before the other action)?

1. drive to beach
2. see a helicopter

'to see'

This is a state verb. It can't be used in continuous form

"I saw the moon from the top of Cristo Rei."

"I was seeing the moon from the top of Cristo Rei."

1. Dylan was diving when he saw a turtle.
2. Dylan dived when he was seeing a turtle.

Which action happened first (before the other action)?

1. dive
2. see a turtle

This time write the sentences.

Use correct: 

• capitals
• commas and full stops

If not, then it is marked wrong.

Capitals to start a sentence and for names.

example:

• The children were playing in the park when it started to rain.
• While I was reading a book, the dog came.
• As Dyan was diving, he saw a turle.

Put a full stop (.) at the end of every sentence.

example:

• The children were playing in the park when it started to rain.
• While I was reading a book, the dog came.

We use a comma (,) if the link word starts the......

1. first clause
2. second clause
