Relative clause
A relative clause is an extra sentence within a sentence that gives you extra information.
"I sent her a letter, which arrived three weeks later"
"The dog, who was barking loudly, alerted us of the people that were standing at the door"

Defining relative clause
tells you which noun we're talking about
"I like the woman who lives next door" 

you can use 'that' in a defining relative clause
"I bought a house that/which is 200 years old"

Sometimes you can drop the relative pronoun

Non-defining relative clause
Gives extra information about the noun, but is not necessary 
"My neighbour, who is very old, sometimes forgets things"
"I don't like my new computer, which I bought last week"

You can not use 'that' in a non defining clause

You can never drop the relative pronoun

"The river was polluted by the company"

Used to place focus on the action, rather than who did it

past simple: a time in the past that is over and done
past simple passive: object + was/were + verb-ed

"The ball was kicked by the little kid"
"The houses were burned down by the criminal"

present simple: used for facts/things that happen often or regularly
present simple passive: object + am/is/are + verb-ed

"The flowers are watered by the gardener every week"
"Cars are often stolen in this neighbourhood "

What about indicators for time and place?
Leave them be!

If they're at the end of the sentence: leave them there
"Pictures are drawn on the wall"
If it's one word in the middle: put it after am/are/is
"Mistakes are often made by her"
