When listening at your exam, you get the topic of the video you wil watch. There might be different topics in the video though.

- after hearing the conversation write down what the topic was.

- you don't get a lot of context, so pay close attention

- describe the topic as specifically as you can:

"Why" questions

On our exam, you can expect some "why" questions.

These questions often link two parts of a text.

Why was the queen evacuated?

1. the queen was evacuated, used helicopter, brought to hospital

2. There was a flood in buckingham palace

understanding "why" questions

Develop critical reading skills

- Pick an article on BBC newsound. If it's a long article, you don't have to use all of it.

- Read the article

- Make five questions about the article for a classmate - 15 mins

- Use "why" questions, not yes/no/one word answer questions:

    - do ask: Why did the queen have to be evacuated?

    - don't ask: what type of helicopter was the queen evacuated with?

- Ready? exchanging pairs are in teams chat, send (or share with) the questions (including link to article) to that person.

- Answer the questions in the document. Send back to your filled out document - 8 mins

- Give feedback to your classmate, where could they find the right answer - 7 mins

- Hand in the document in teams
