Spermatogenesis:
- starts during puberty
- keeps occurring for entire life
- millions of sperm produced per day
- the process of producing a sperm cell takes about 2-3 months
Oogenesis:
- starts in the womb but stays in prophase I until puberty
- stops during menopause (usually 40s-50s)
- only a few cells mature every menstrual cycle
