• Napoleon tries to extend French influence in Europe by conquest
• His army is large, well trained, disciplined and experienced

• Napoleon decided to ban all trade between GB and Europe --> Russia refuses and Napoleon gathers an army of almost 700.000 soldiers to attack Russia

• In 1813 Napoleon is defeated --> hij gets imprisoned on the isle of Elba

He escapes in 1815 and gathers an army: he is defeated at Waterloo by England and Prussia
