Wanneer gebruik je een past perfect?
1 als er in een zin 2 dingen gebeuren in de verleden tijd maar niet op hetzelfde moment dan staat de gebeurtenis het dichtste bij het heden in de verleden tijd (past tense)en de gebeurtenis het verste van het heden in de voltooid verleden tijd ( past perfect)

 2  je gebruikt de past perfect om aan te geven dat iets in het verre verleden begonnen is en in het verleden nog bezig was (dus echt verleden tijd van present perfect) van (verre) toen tot toen

1) Two things in the past happened, the thing that happened first is in past perfect, and the other event which is closer to the present is the past tense.

          After they had hiked up the mountain, they took a shower.

Past perfect continuous
Continuous = duration of the event is important

  • I had been chopping wood all morning when her sister arrived. (past perfect continuous)
  • He had been waiting for an hour when I arrived. (past perfect continuous)
  • She had been working on her project for weeks when she realised  she had used the wrong data. ) (past perfect continuous)
